Nestled on the charming Ferry Road in Edinburgh, The Salvation Army - Ashbrook is more than just a café; it's a cozy retreat that invites you to unwind and relish the simple pleasures of life. Occupying a beautiful old house complete with serene community gardens, this little gem offers a delightful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

As you step into Ashbrook, you’re greeted by warm smiles from a friendly team dedicated to making your experience memorable. The atmosphere is inviting and relaxed, perfect for casual catch-ups with friends or a peaceful moment spent tucked away with a good book. The rustic décor and community-focused ambiance create a sense of belonging that is palpable.

The menu at Ashbrook features a selection of well-crafted teas, delicious scones, and mouthwatering cakes that have charmed many visitors. Patrons rave about the gluten-free scone that even the non-gluten-free crowd can’t resist, with its crumbly texture and subtle sweetness. For those craving a heartwarming drink, the teas served here are steeped to perfection, making them a delightful accompaniment to any treat.

Customers love the aromatic coffee that complements the café's offerings brilliantly, ensuring that every sip is a moment of joy. Many visitors have described the food as not just good, but beautifully presented and flavorful. As one happy customer remarked, “The food that others were eating looked well presented and tasty,” highlighting the café’s commitment to quality and aesthetics.

The true appeal of Ashbrook, however, lies in its sense of community. A haven for local residents, it’s a place where friendships are forged and memories are made. As noted by Mairi Leach, “It deserves to attract more custom from the large local market for cafes,” a sentiment echoed by others who feel that this lovely café is often overlooked due to its slightly off-the-beaten-path location. But that just means fewer crowds and more tranquility for those who seek it!

Whether visiting for a delightful tea and scone after a stroll in the garden or pausing for a delicious lunch made with care, Ashbrook captures the essence of what a café should be: a warm-hearted space where everyone feels welcomed. So, if you’re looking for a place to indulge your senses while enjoying delightful treats and friendly service, make your way to The Salvation Army - Ashbrook – you’re bound to leave with a smile and a full heart.

My Uncle is in the Salvation Army Care Home and there's nothing nicer than nipping over to Ashbrook for a tea & scone.

This is a beautiful, old house with lovely community gardens, owned by The Salvation Army. The food and drinks are excellent and very affordable. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. It deserves to attract more custom from the large local market for cafes. We suspect that being a bit off the beaten track for many, this lovely cafe is undeservedly overlooked.
